Lisa La Touche
Lisa La Touche is a Canadian-born, New York-based tap dance artist, choreographer, educator, and cultural historian. She was an original cast member of Broadway’s Shuffle Along, choreographed by Savion Glover and directed by George C. Wolfe, earning both the Fred Astaire Award and the Actors’ Equity Award for Outstanding Broadway Chorus.
Her performance credits include STOMP, the 70th Annual Tony Awards, Savion Glover’s Stepz, and appearances at Harlem’s historic Cotton Club. Since 2010, she has directed her company, Tap Phonics, creating and presenting original works commissioned by organizations including The Brooklyn Museum, Gibney Dance, and Fall for Dance North. A passionate educator, La Touche has taught at Pace University, Marymount Manhattan College, NYU, Jacob’s Pillow, and numerous institutions across North America. She also collaborates with the Apollo Theater’s educational programming.
As a cultural historian, she explores connections between tap dance, African diaspora traditions, and her Trinidadian heritage through projects such as Trinidad & Tap Dance: As Folklore. Her documentary and research work further highlights the intersections of history, culture, and performance.
