About the event
Tap dancers and a quartet of live musicians exchange expressive musical opinions, rediscovering themselves and their art within improvisation to Coltrane’s compositions. Witnessing life's course, rhythm, and miracles, the dancers and musicians perform with a progressive admiration for tradition in the name of the highest power, truth, and ancestral wisdom. Supreme Love is presented in partnership with the Chicago Human Rhythm Project, where Taylor is Artistic Director.
Jumaane Taylor, a Chicago native, has been tap dancing since the age of seven at the Sammy Dyer School of the Theatre and trained with Geraldine Williams, Idella Reed Davis, Runako Jahi, Bril Barrett, Jimmy Payne Jr., and George Patterson III. In 2001, Jumaane made his professional debut with the company M.A.A.D Rhythms and went on the perform in the casts of Imagine Tap!, Tap Into Peace, and Rasta Thomas’ Tap Stars .
Jumaane received the Chicago Dancemakers Forum 2017 Lab Artist Award and a 3Arts 2019 Award. He has performed his work at Jacob's Pillow, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Jazz Institute of Chicago, and abroad. He teaches at Mayfair Arts Center, Ruth Page School of Dance, and the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. In 2021, Jumaane was named the Artistic Director of the Chicago Human Rhythm Project.
