What is the Residency program?

(July 21 – 25, 2008)

The 2008 Residency program features CHRP’s most established master teachers. Students can study with up to three teachers for five consecutive days. Each residency group will meet once a day for a total of two hours. The residencies will focus on each teacher’s unique philosophies on technique and choreography. Residency students will receive certificates of completion and some students may receive additional certificates of merit.

What is the Youth Tap Ensemble Conference (YTEC)?

(July 28 – August 1, 2008)

YTEC includes five consecutive days of:

  1. 1.5 hour technique classes with a different renowned, master teacher each day
  2. 1.5 hour improvisation classes with one primary teacher and one guest teacher
  3. 1 hour seminars ranging in focus from alternative movement practices (Tai Chi) to working with live musical accompaniment, lighting design, composition, rap sessions and an opportunity to share new choreographies
  4. 2 hour rehearsals with a cheoregrapher creating complete dances for ensembles’ repertories.
  5. Opportunity to perform on the Saturday JUBA! concert at the Josephine Louis Theater.* Not required. Limited to ensemble

What are the Adult and University Tap Ensemble Conferences (ATEC/UTEC)?

Programs that parallel the YTEC program. In the first year,  these programs only feature the choreographic component and allow the students to choose from the general courses for additional enrichment.

What is a “Course”?

A course meets once a day, Monday through Thursday for one hour and twenty minutes each day. Courses are cumulative, that is, they build from one day to the next and allow teachers to present material in a more comprehensive context. If you are unsure about what your “level” is, we suggest that you talk to your teacher or look at our teachers’ bios on CHRP’s web site to find the right fit. Feel free to contact our office, but please realize that it may be difficult to assess your skill level if we haven’t seen you dance. Courses fill quickly and space is limited so register early to save your space.

What is a “Masterclass”?

Our masterclasses meet on Saturday and Sunday and are intended to offer dancers a feast of teachers, styles and techniques. Some have specific focuses and others are simply identified by the teacher and level. If you have a specific question, please feel free to call us!
