BAM! will Premier in May 2004
Lane Alexander Receives IAC Choreography Fellowship

News: BAM! will Premiere in May 2004
Lane Alexander received a $15,000.00 Grant from the Chicago Dancemakers Forum along with three other noted CHicago choreographers, Shirley Mordine, Eduardo Vilaro and Hema Rajagopalan. The CDF provides funds for choreographers to design a creation process relevant to their particular field and circumstance. Alexander designed a curriculum for himself with Dianne Walker, Sam Weber, Lynn Dally and Jason Samuels Smith to immerse himself in movement, rhythmic and spatial choices other than his own. He is auditioning dancers to work on a choreography project, BAM!, that will premier in May 2004.

BAM! is made possible through the support of The Chicago Dancemakers Forum, a choreographers development project led by The Museum of Contemporary Art, The Dance Center of Columbia College, and Links Hall with funding by the Chicago Community Trust.

Tradition in Tap - Series

The upcoming workshop in the 'Tradition In Tap - Series' will be dedicated to the work and legacy of Tap Legend - Dr. Jeni LeGon.
Featuring: the 'Master' herself, and with:

Lane Alexander, Ofer Ben, Karen Callaway Williams, Heather Cornell, Melba Huber, Michela Marino Lerman, Avi Miller, Germaine Salsberg, Prof. Hank Smith & many tap friends.

The workshop will take place at Broadway Dance Center in New York City on Memorial Day Weekend - May 28-30,2004.

The program includes:
- Tap Courses with Dr. Jeni LeGon.
- Honorary Master Classes by leading tap artists.
- Tradition In Tap - Award Presentation.
- Tap History Talks.
- Video Presentation.
- Tap Technique.

Dr. Jeni LeGon will teach two tap courses:
Course #1 will be based on routines she did with the legendary Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson (Their choreography can be seen in 'Hooray for Love', the movie they did together in 1935).
Course #2
will emphasize her own unique hoofing style.

Her documentary: 'Jeni LeGon - Living In A Great Big Way' will be sold and signed at the workshop, as well as a standby list for her soon to be published book: 'On With The Show, Girl!' - a book with her memoirs which span nearly seven decades of American Jazz. The book will give a first-hand account of her encounters with some of the greatest personalities of the 20th Century - from Count Basie, Fats Waller, Paul Robeson and Bill Robinson to conversations with the King, both as the Prince of Wales and King Edward VIII, Eleanor Roosevelt, Hailie Salassie and Winston Churchill. The photographs from Jeni's career are, in themselves, a history of the stage and screen unparalleled anywhere.
