Chicago Human Rhythm Project hires Frank Sonntag
Reporting on Culture from Chicago and Beyond
As of June 4, Frank Sonntag is executive director at Chicago Human Rhythm Project. In a statement released this morning, Lane Alexander, artistic director of the tap- and percussive-dance presenting organization, calls Sonntag a “heavy hitter who can lead CHRP during a time of extraordinary opportunity.” This immediate agenda includes copresenting the U.S. debut of Chinese troupe Nanning Art Theatre’s Legend of the Sun June 12 and 13; producing the 22nd “Rhythm World” festival of tap classes and performances, plus panel discussions, July 23 through August 5; and gearing up for CHRP’s first engagement at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts this December.
Sonntag, formerly at NYC institutions including Parsons Dance as well as at Dance St. Louis, helmed the opening last fall of the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts in Minneapolis but resigned shortly thereafter. The Alford Group Executive Searchprocess and Sonntag’s hire were funded by, respectively, a capacity development grant from the MacArthur Fund for Arts and Culture at Prince, and a multi-year gift from board chair Elaine Cohen and her husband, Arlen Rubin.
