Jeremy Kahn
Musical Director
JEREMY KAHN is one of Chicago's busiest pianists, staying active in the
worlds of jazz, theatre, and recording. Kahn attended New England Conservatory
in Boston to study with jazz master Jaki Byard, and moved to New York
after graduating from NEC. While in New York, he was a member of Vince
Giordano's Nighthawks, a band specializing in jazz from the '20's and
'30's, playing for Steven Spielberg's wedding, and appearing on NBC's
Today Show, and in the film "Bloodhounds on Broadway" with Madonna and
Matt Dillon. While on the East Coast, he also did a variety of theatre
projects involving Gary Sinise, Max Roach, John Guare, and Frances McDormand.
After returning to his hometown of Chicago, Kahn became the bandleader
at The Gold Star Sardine Bar for three wonderful years, and performed
with Joni Mitchell at The Rosemont Theatre. He has been a member of many
pit orchestras for touring Broadway musicals, conducting the band for
The Goodman Theatre's all-Ellington show "Play On!", and is currently
playing for The Lion King. Kahn has also been the pianist/arranger for
The Manhattan Rhythm Kings for 15 years, playing with them in Italy and
New York's Rainbow Room, as well as countless concerts all throughout
the US. His CD "The Jitterbug Waltz" was the subject of a Studs Terkel
interview on WFMT, and he was also the musical director of the radio show
"Words and Music" for the same station.
