Matthew Shields


Canadian Tap Dancer Matthew Shields has taught and performed at the Soul to Sole Tap Festival, the Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival, and the Hoofin’ Ground Tap Festival. Matt has accompanied the stage with Dr. Aurthor Duncan of the Laurence Welk show at both the Vancouver International Tap Dance Festival and The LA Tap Fest Concerts in 2009. Matt has performed at the Edmonton International Jazz Festival, as well as the Festival Le International Dance Encore.

Matt was seen live around the world as a featured soloist and ensemble dancer in the opening number of the 2008 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon.

Matt is currently working on an O-1 artist visa based in Austin, TX where he is a principal dancer with Tapestry Dance Company. Shields is in his seventh season with TDC, and is also the Artistic Director of TDC's; Tapestry on the Fringe.

Matthew’s choreography was voted winner of first ‘Virtual Rhythms’ online contest held by The Chicago Human Rhythm Project. The Piece was performed at the Museum of Contemporary Art, in Chicago “And four young dancers ably and attractively delivered Matt Shields’ quick-changing designs, patterns, and joyfulness in the contest’s choreographic winner.” Chicago Tribune.

Matt performed and trained in Calgary, AB with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks as a cast member of ‘Live and In Sync’ (touring educational show) and also with MADD Rhythms Canada as a guest artist.
